We are proud to showcase the recent work and success of our center’s graduate assistants.
IUCB’s Graduate Assistant, Morgan Rich, recently published an editor’s pick blog in Bioethics Today titled “Who Deserves Ozempic? Ethical Challenges of Weight-Loss Use”. The blog highlights how the new ‘miracle drug’ for weight-loss quickly became one of the most popular new drugs in America, creating a discrepancy between consumers who need it for medical conditions and those who desire it for cosmetic purposes, and posing an array of ethical challenges.
Our other graduate assistant, Clayton Hicks, recently presented a poster at the CTSI Annual Meeting and was awarded the Kurt Kroenke Poster and Research Travel Award. This award includes a travel award to attend the upcoming Society of Medical Decision-Making Conference and share his work. Working with Dr. Janet Panoch, PhD and Dr. Chris Collier, MD, this project focuses on the development of a decision aid tool to be used by orthopedic surgeons and families at the time of diagnosis of osteosarcoma. There is currently no standard for the timeline of surgical options for osteosarcoma and this decision card tool is a step towards the development of a standardized diagnosis discussion.
